You might think of starfish or sea star as a sea creature you find in tropical waters but there are several species that live around Vancouver Island. This starfish was found by our family member on Rathtrevor Beach in Parksville, located on the island. We've been looking for starfish for a few years and when Nicky found this little starfish among her aunt's beach treasures, she was so excited.
Rathtrevor Beach is such a popular destination for families because when the tide goes out, the ocean recedes almost a kilometre, providing a perfect spot for everyone to play in the sand and explore the shoreline. When the tide rolls in over the sun-baked sand, the warmed water is so beautiful for swimming.

The starfish is approximately 2.3 cm x 2.7 cm
