Have you been to Tofino? It’s on the Western edge of Vancouver Island, located as far west as you can drive in Canada. There, you’ll find remote beaches strewn with driftwood, sand dollars and dense coastal rain forests that have remained untouched for thousands of years; bears and eagles, seals and sea otters and all manner of wildlife.
We found this sand dollar on Middle Beach. Although Middle Beach is not Tofino's most popular beach, it's one of the most beautiful and magical beaches because it's not on the tourists' radar. We love walking on the beach after the tide has gone out to find so many beautiful sand dollars and shells scattered along the sandy shores. Do you know the fascinating legend about them? Inside the shell, there are five “doves” and when they are released, it’s believed to spread peace and goodwill into the world.
